Sandy started with a Kodak box camera that her dad gave her when she was six. Young Sandy took photos of the family, friends, travels, events, people for decades. Then a good friend and painter introduced her to Plein Air painting. She found painting freeing, loose, and fun. Sandy’s mentor and friend, a well-known Taos painter, Richard Alan Nichols, has guided her from her first flowing strokes to looking closer and choosing colors that give the painting more depth, emotion and color. The bag of four oil tubes with which she started has now become a large rainbow.
Sandy speaks of her process, “It has been so much fun to do something different and creative in another direction. Precise is a photograph; flow with fun is a painting.”
