Emma Yepa
Emma Yepa started making pottery professionally in 1987. Though she specializes in stone polished swirl melon bowls, and seed pots that have a contemporary aesthetic, Emma uses time honored techniques and processes. She gathers natural materials from Jemez Pueblo, hand-builds her pots and fires pottery traditionally outdoors as well as in a kiln. Her work is known for its distinctive kiva design tops and swirled red and green mesa clay pigments. Emma has won numerous awards from venues such as the Eight Northern Pueblo Indian Arts & Craft Show and the world-famous Santa Fe Indian Market. Her work was also published in the book, Southern Pueblo Pottery by Gregory Schaaf. Emma continues to explore new techniques and designs for her pottery while honoring the rich tradition of Jemez pottery.
